RIETI – On Monday, May 12, the conference “Blockchain and Bitcoin: Innovation and Future” was held in the City Council Hall of the Municipality of Rieti. The event, organized on the initiative of Honorable Marcello Coppo, aimed to explore the ongoing transformations in digital technologies applied to finance and public administration. The initiative attracted an audience of students, entrepreneurs, professionals, and representatives from the academic world.
Following the introduction by Dr. Giosuè Calabrese, institutional greetings were given by Andrea Sebastiani, Budget Councillor of the Municipality of Rieti; Professor Alessandro Ruggieri, President of the Steering Committee of the Research Center for Innovation on Circular Economy and Health and of the Inter-University Course in Innovation Economics in Rieti; and Mariella Cari, President of Sabina Universitas. The opening speeches emphasized the need to foster a structured reflection on the impact of emerging technologies, even at the local level.
Among the speakers, Honorable Marcello Coppo, Member of Parliament and President of the parliamentary intergroup dedicated to digital assets, highlighted the importance of thoroughly understanding the development of cryptocurrencies. His speech offered a historical overview of the evolution of the concept of money, from Roman nummus to the introduction of Bitcoin. He underlined the cultural and political significance of these technologies, stressing how lawmakers must be equipped with adequate tools to support their development.
Professor Anna Maria D’Arcangelis, Professor of Financial Markets Economics at the University of Tuscia, addressed the issue of cryptocurrencies from a comparative perspective, analyzing the relationship between financial innovation and regulation on a global scale. Her contribution focused on the challenges related to the governance of decentralized technologies.
Finally, Engineer Luca Busolli, Innovation Manager and consultant specialized in blockchain, explained the operating principles of this innovative technology, clarifying its potential applications in various sectors, from data traceability to security in digital transactions.
The conference provided concrete insights to foster new synergies between institutions, universities, and companies interested in innovation processes. The closing discussion highlighted the need to strengthen dialogue between public and private stakeholders. The initiative represented a valuable opportunity to reflect on the prospects offered by emerging technologies, reaffirming Rieti’s role as a territory attentive to digital transformation and the economy of the future.
