Artificial intelligence in Italy is not growing only in laboratories or among big tech companies. According to the new report “Artificial Intelligence for the Italian System”, carried out by the Confindustria AI Sounding Board, the true driving force behind AI adoption is represented by production supply chains, industrial districts, and collaboration between companies.

The Reinova case

A leading example is Reinova, a Modena-based company in the Motor Valley specialized in vehicle electrification. With 100 employees and 12 million euros in revenue, Reinova integrates artificial intelligence into all its processes: from planning to autonomous driving, up to cybersecurity.

A company that shows how AI, when applied in the right context, can generate tangible value.

A widespread phenomenon

Reinova is not an exception. The report analyzes over 240 use cases across more than 70 Italian companies, confirming a clear trend: AI is increasingly becoming a competitive tool. It is used to:

  • optimize production processes
  • improve business performance
  • support internationalization
  • enhance logistics

The most involved sectors? Healthcare, manufacturing, transport, and tourism, with significant growth in cybersecurity applications—today seen as crucial.

The Confindustria vision

According to Alberto Tripi, special advisor to Confindustria, Italy has been digitalized for years: generative AI is simply a new step in a broader journey.

However, he warns, change cannot stop at technology: a true cultural evolution is needed. Companies must learn to integrate AI not as a replacement for people, but as a tool to strengthen their capabilities.

An international perspective

At the international level, there is agreement on this vision: Hemant Taneja, CEO of General Catalyst, stated that AI is “much more than a technology – it is a vector of transformation.”

Those who know how to adapt will emerge stronger, those who resist risk falling behind.

The Italian model

Italy is pursuing a distinctive model: widespread, cooperative, rooted in local territories. A strategy that could represent a winning key to facing the future of innovation in an inclusive and sustainable way.
