2024 will be remembered as a historic year for the Italian agri-food sector.
According to data from The European House – Ambrosetti, the sector’s exports reached a record foreign turnover of €67.5 billion, marking a 5.5% increase compared to 2023.
As reported by Il Sole 24 Ore, Italian wine remains a leader in the sector, with foreign revenues exceeding €8 billion. Following closely are pasta and baked goods, approaching €7.6 billion in exports, with an increase of 8.6%.
This performance strengthens the Made in Italy brand as one of the fundamental pillars of the national economy.
Since 2010, the agri-food sector has maintained an average annual growth rate of 6.5%, and today accounts for nearly 11% of total Italian exports. Among the top-performing products are wine and pasta — international icons of Italian culinary tradition — which alone generate over €15 billion in exports.
At the regional level, Lombardy confirms its position as the leading region in agri-food production, with a turnover of €50 billion, representing 19% of the national total. In particular, Valtellina stands out for its mountain wines, with over 3 million bottles produced each year and an economic value of around €24 million.
Thus, 2024 reinforces the role of the Italian agri-food sector as a global ambassador of taste and a key industry capable of successfully tackling the economic, environmental, and geopolitical challenges the future holds.
