Rieti, Sustainability of the Industrial System and Focus on the Food Supply Chain

On September 4, 2025, at Area Spazio Italia in Rieti, during the World Chili Pepper Fair sponsored by Unindustria, the event “Sustainability of the Rieti Industrial System and Focus on the Food Supply Chain” took place, an important opportunity for discussion among businesses, institutions, universities, and the local community.

Among the speeches, Prof. Alessandro Ruggieri emphasized that sustainability must become the core of industrial and food policies.

Main Points of the Speech

• Sustainability and Businesses: the need to raise awareness and educate consumers about product sustainability, overcome the limitations related to the costs of sustainable products, and introduce stricter controls for companies that do not meet environmental and quality standards.
• Food Innovation: use of new technologies to ensure product traceability and quality, along with clearer communication to educate consumers for conscious eating.
• Research and Territory: numerous university courses (Tuscia and Sapienza), including the Inter-University Course in Innovation Economics, will take place this year at Palazzo Aluffi. Collaboration between universities, research centers (CRIECS), science parks, and businesses is crucial to transform Rieti into a hub for startups and innovative projects.

The goal, concluded Prof. Ruggieri, is to make Rieti a small laboratory of sustainable innovation, capable of becoming a reference model for the entire region.
